Nuestra Señora
This collection is a tribute to my childhood environment growing up as a Mexican American in the south. I pull conceptual inspiration from Mexican traditions and folklore, traditional gothic churches and architecture, and the sometimes-suffocating feeling of small-town living to create an aura of unsettling femininity. Catholic imagery embroidered on pieces, maximalist design elements such as layering and embellishments, feminine and flattering silhouettes, historical construction references, and references to the “southern gothic” subculture will all come together to contribute to the mood. Nuestra Señora, or “Our Lady,” balances the beauty of Mexican culture with the uncanniness of southern gothic aesthetics to offer the ultimate expression of hand-crafted, dark femininity.
